Case Study: National Council for Animal Protection

Since 2003, HRC has worked closely with the National Council for Animal Protection (NCAP) to conduct multiple research studies. NCAP is a coalition of U.S. based animal protection organizations working together to help build movement capacity and effectiveness.

Case Study: HSUS's Humane Index of U.S. Cities

The Humane Index is a joint effort by the Humane Society of the United States and the Humane Research Council to determine the overall humaneness of America's largest metropolitan areas, as determined by 12 factors such as percentage of pet stores selling puppies and the ratio of wildlife watchers to hunters.

Case Study: The Handsel Foundation

The Handsel Foundation is a small private foundation working to end the ill treatment and overpopulation of companion animals. Beginning in May 2006, HRC conducted three phases of research for the Handsel Foundation ("Handsel") related to grant-making effectiveness.
