Short Description:
According to this American Kennel Club survey, improved health through diet and exercise is one of the most popular New Year's resolutions among dog owners; 75% of dog owners plan on incorporating their dog into their 2011 fitness goals.

Abstract:
Most survey respondents resolved to walk more with their dogs for exercise, though many also planned to go on a hike or to the dog park more often with their companion. Dog owners were also concerned about their dog's diet, also resolving to not forget about their dog's diet and refrain from accidental overfeeding.
About 85% of dog owners say they have more faith in themselves and their dog than their spouses with respect to losing weight. Only 15% of respondents thought their spouses would be more successful than them and the dog in dieting.

The family dog is also a part of New Year's Eve celebrations, this survey finding that 43% of dog owners choose to kiss their spouse on New Year's Eve, with the family dog coming in at second with 40%.
