The American Certified Humane was among the first farmed animal welfare labeling programs in the nation. A proprietary study funded by the American Humane Association found that humanely raised products are important to U.S. consumers.

Abstract:
According to the results of a survey sponsored by the American Humane Association, of all types of food labels, humanely raised is the most important to consumers. Most consumers say they are willing to pay up to 10% more for a product obtained from animals that were humanely raised.

American Certified Humane label

Dear friends, please, could somebody explain how it is possible to use "Certified Humane" label on a product derived from an animal who had reasonably good life but suffered so much afterwards and was killed in a gruesome way - as evidenced by numerous reports of horrendous suffering of farm animals during transport and especially in slaughter plants? All I am seeking is an honest explanation and justification of this and similar labels. Please, let me know. Jan Cejka, Ph.D. Troy, Michigan
