More Information...

Short Description:
In this survey of beef consumers by the Beef Checkoff Program, cattle ranchers and farmers were selected as the third greenest profession from a list of jobs which included park rangers at the top of the list; 86% of Americans believe that cattle farmers and ranchers are committed to environmental preservation.

Abstract:
According to this research, two-thirds of U.S. cattle farms and ranches have been in the same family for two or more generations. Americans' impressions of farms and ranches originate from TV shows and movies about the American west (30%), first hand experience with a rancher (22%), and newspapers and magazine articles (21%).
Survey respondents selected park rangers to be the greenest profession on the given list, though there was no statistically significant difference found between those jobs designated as the second greenest professions, which included dietitians, cattle ranchers, and farmers.
