Short Description:
This 2008 report from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) describes the highest level of food insecurity (15%) among U.S. households since the department first began reporting figures in 1995.
Abstract:
In 2008, 17 million households, representing 14.6% of all U.S. households, felt insecure about food and many had a difficult time obtaining an adequate supply of food. This is a substantial increase from 13 million households (11.1%) in 2007.
One-third of food insecure households noted that the food intake of some household members was reduced at some point; this represents about 5.7% of the total, or 6.7 million U.S. households, and an increase from 4.1% in 2007.
