Short Description:
A 2009 International Anti-Fur Coalition survey shows that 86% of Israelis believe killing animals for fur is immoral and nearly 80% would support a bill calling for the ban of the fur trade in Israel.
Abstract:
In other findings, among Israel's generally Jewish population, 92% consider the killing of animals for fur to be immoral, while 85% of new immigrants, 54% of Arab-Israelis, and 61% of ultra-Orthodox Jews also oppose this activity.
According to the Coalition, worldwide more than 65 million animals are killed each year for their fur. The ultra-Orthodox party does, however, wish to preserve the use of round fur hats (shtreimeis) which are made from rabbit, sable, stone marten, baum marten, and American gray fox.
