HumaneSpot.org User Application Process

The resources on HumaneSpot.org are available exclusively to animal advocates. This allows us to focus on delivering high quality tools to a specific audience and control our ability to share research results. We offer full research reports and other proprietary information on this site, including some shared by HRC's clients, so security and trust are top priorities. That's why we have an application process, which typically follows these steps:

  1. Is HumaneSpot.org for You? Our users are animal advocates, without exception. HRC and HumaneSpot.org define an "animal advocate" as anyone working to help animals, whether as a shelter volunteer, a grassroots organizer, or the CEO of a major group. When applying, advocates should have a clear reason for wanting access to the HumaneSpot.org resources.
  2. New User Application. To qualify users, we ask them to complete an online application (note: this page is not available to users who are already logged in). The information requested in our application includes your contact information and a brief series of questions regarding why you would like access to HumaneSpot.org. Applicants must provide accurate information for all required fields and must also agree to the Terms and Conditions of Use."
  3. Automatic "Guest" Access. Once a new application is submitted, the applicant will receive an automated email with their account information. At this point, they are also granted "guest" status and receive limited access to the site's content. If the application is approved without needing further information, the applicant will receive a second email confirming that they now have full access to the site.
  4. Follow-Up Questions. If the information provided in the user application is insufficient for us to make a decision, we will follow up via email with further questions. This may include asking more about the applicant's reasons for requesting access to HumaneSpot.org, involvement in animal advocacy, etc. We may also ask for references to verify involvement with animal protection organizations, if applicable. Applications are kept in a "pending" status until sufficient information is provided for us to make a decision.
  5. Denials and Appeals. We respond to every new application, including those that are pending, per above, as well as those that are denied. If an applicant is currently involved in some form of animal protection or advocacy, then a denial is unlikely (though still possible and entirely at HRC's discretion). If an applicant has questions about the status of an account or would like to appeal our decision to deny an application, contact us.

If you encounter a malicious user or witness any of the HumaneSpot.org content being shared publicly or used in an otherwise suspicious manner, please contact us immediately.
