Are we winning the war for animals?

HRC recently announced our latest collaborative research study designed to measure the progress of the U.S. animal advocacy movement. Supported by both organizational sponsors and contributions from individuals, the new study is a truly collaborative project designed to inexpensively gather reliable data. The new study will be on ongoing resource showing the status of animal protection in the U.S. according to a set of "key indicators." To learn more, please read our email to HRC's supporters...

Dear HRC Supporter,

I recently wrote a blog that discussed what animal advocates can do to remain effective during the down economy. One suggestion was to collaborate with each other more on our projects and programs. By working together, we can achieve so much more than working by ourselves, including stretching our limited budgets during tough times.

When it comes to research, the Humane Research Council is leading the way by encouraging animal advocates to combine their efforts. We create collaborative research studies that allow advocates to pool their resources and share the findings to help others help more animals. By doing so, HRC provides the opportunity for advocates to take a shared approach to both investing in and learning from research.

Last year, we asked for your feedback on HRC’s next collaborative project. About nine in ten of you said it would be most valuable for HRC to measure the progress of the animal protection movement by developing and evaluating a set of “key indicators.” We listened, and in response HRC has developed an exciting new research study to analyze diverse indicators covering a wide range of animal issues in the U.S.

This new study is different from anything HRC has done before. It complements our popular “Animal Tracker” public opinion survey, but the new project will collect information from other sources – including government, academia, and industry – to provide a comprehensive understanding of the progress of the animal protection movement. HRC will then track both positive and negative changes over time to understand where animal advocates are progressing and where we may be falling short in our drive to achieve a more humane world.

Support HRCThis important new study will rely on publicly available sources of data that are obtainable at little or no cost, but HRC still needs some help with funding. The response from foundations and organizational sponsors has been very positive and those commitments cover most of the estimated project cost. But we still need to raise another $4,000 from individual donors like you.

Please donate to HRC in support of collaborative research... if just half of the people who receive this email contribute $10 to this study, we will achieve our goal! Your donation will help HRC develop an invaluable resource for animal advocates to understand our momentum when it comes to creating positive change for animals. When you donate, please be sure to note "key indicators study" in the comments section so that we know to earmark your donation for this project.

Thank you for your support of collaborative research projects through HRC. By working together, we can reduce the costs of conducting essential research and share the results broadly to help everyone become more effective advocates for animals.

In solidarity,
Che Green
