Short Description:
This survey assesses the beliefs of Canadians on 21 ethical issues (including animal testing and wearing fur), with results demonstrating a significant divide on certain issues by gender and region.
Abstract:
Survey findings suggest that some animal issues yield stronger responses from Canadians than some human-centered issues. For instance, 22% of Canadians oppose human euthanasia and 34% oppose capital punishment, while 41% oppose animal testing and 31% are opposed to wearing fur. However, these deal with vastly different concepts despite the article's attempts to compare them.
The survey also addresses other ethical issues, including prostitution and polygamy. Overall, the results depict Canadians as relatively liberal on moral issues and increasing in empathy toward animal issues. However, the survey methodology is not provided and results are actually less favorable toward animals than comparable surveys in the U.S.
