More Information...

Short Description:
According to market research firm Mintel, the recession continues to affect consumer purchases of meat and poultry products; half of consumers say they are purchasing less expensive cuts of meat, while others buy premium types of meat due to less frequent dining out.

Abstract:
Consumer purchases of meat and poultry vary; half of consumers are more likely to purchase less expensive cuts of meat, while others still are more likely to purchase premium meats because they are dining out less frequently. In addition, processed meats continue to do well as more consumers bring lunch to work as opposed to eating out.
Specifically, premium hot dogs are witnessing a positive trend in sales. Poultry products also continue to perform well due to value, the "health halo" surrounding poultry, and poultry's broad appeal to many people.
